“You must be very powerful. The devil has been trying to kill you since you got here.” My sister said this to me in the midst of my very early recovery from multiple, active, severe mental health diagnoses brought on by the combination of unresolved trauma and burnout. It felt like truth. It felt like being seen.
Over the course of my career, I have served real estate developers, girls, nonprofits, entrepreneurs, creatives and small business owners, people struggling with burnout, leaders and rising leaders, and corporations that were ready to introduce mental illness, burnout, and suicide awareness into their wellness programming. To each in their season I have given my whole heart.
The breadth and depth of my experience combined with my internal resistance to feeling pinned down or boxed in have made the question of “who I am here to serve” feel like an impossible quest. Like my body and mind would just go blank when pressed.
Over the last few years, I have floated around potential niche descriptors like “disruptors, visionaries, change makers, entrepreneurs, cycle breakers” and while all of them felt true, they also felt incomplete.
In somatic meditation just a week ago, the words came through, “I am a lightbearer.”
“Lightbearer” is not a term I have used before. To my recollection, I hadn’t ever read it before it came through in meditation. And because definitions matter, what follows is my own working definition.
Are you a lightbearer?
Do you illuminate possibility, power and potential, challenge the status quo and envision a different way of being for yourself and the collective?
Do you shine light on truth, the unspoken, and the future?
Do you bring light into the shadows, not to extinguish them, but to invite them into wholeness and integration?
Lightbearers can carry light because we have met our own shadows. We have learned to hold them with tender compassion and invite them to receive what they need. Because of this, we are not afraid of the shadows in other people. We hold others and the world with the vision of potential. We do not deny or bypass darkness, suffering or pain but we also see the light of what is possible and we invite others to step into this belief.
We create, nurture, hold, build, challenge, call into accountability, envision and amplify our own light and the light in others.
The world needs more lightbearers. In every walk of life.
Please know that there are no moral judgments or value assumptions being made here. You are here for a purpose. You have a unique combination of skills, experiences, and capacities that this world needs. It is going to take all of us to step out of the constructs that are making us individually and collectively ill.
And the fact that I feel compelled to tell you this, in some ways proves my point. I want you to see the potential in you. The potential in us. And I want nothing more than for you to have the resources you need to fully step into and express that potential.
I refuse to settle for the status quo just because it has always been a certain way. I refuse to bypass the pain and suffering that is inherent in being human. I cannot help but resist false binaries and falling into step behind leaders hellbent on normalizing hypocrisy. I am keenly aware of the ways in which “othering” each other is fracturing us. And I am committed to shining light toward new and different possibilities for how we live and engage with each other and the living world.
If you resonate with my description of lightbearer, even through the tiniest whisper in your soul, I am here to call you into your power and to support you with resourcing that expands your capacity to fully step into your potential.
If you came here to carry out some other mission or purpose that will help hold and support us all as we navigate seismic change across the world and/or help create root-cause solutions to age-old problems, I am here to invite you into your potential to imagine, create and embody that purpose.
And if you aren’t sure what you came here to do, somatic coaching can help you sift through the layers to connect more deeply with your true nature.
Your story is still being written.
Our collective story is still being written.
We need you.
Love,
Booth
