Did You Know There Is A Difference?

Did you know that there is a difference between building a business doing things you are “capable of” versus building a business doing things that you love?

I’ve worked for myself since 2015, and over the course of those years, I have done lots of things I was “capable of” and some things I was even very, very good at. I am regularly grateful that I have been able to lean on skills and expertise I developed over the course of my career to support myself while I walked the winding path that is entrepreneurship.

But did you know that it wasn’t until the winter of 2021 that it finally occurred to me to build a business doing something that I loved enough to do it for FREE?!

Only in the last two years have I started to build a business model around serving women entrepreneurs–even though I had been guiding, coaching and mentoring entrepreneurs for about five years.

I remember, after my first group coaching session for the women-owned business cohorts I kicked off this year; walking away feeling so at home in the work and also laughing at the irony that it took me so long to get to this place.

And guess what?! I expect that my entrepreneurial and life journey will continue to evolve.

That is one of the things I love so much about being an entrepreneur. Your business gets to evolve with you! And you learn so much about yourself from running your own business.

I know myself well enough to know that I will likely always want to have my hands in a variety of work. I have had some wonderful speaking opportunities this year to continue to support mental health and well-being efforts around the world. And I have been honored to serve clients who are struggling with burnout.

But I also regularly check-in with myself about the types of work that no longer “fit”; either because my energy and focus have shifted or because I am far enough removed from that type of work that I would no longer consider myself the right person to do the job.

And I also have chosen not to turn certain things that I love into a business or a career, because I was concerned that turning them into a business would take away some of the joy I find in doing them.

If you dream of creating a business that you love (instead of one that you are just “good at”), I want that for you too.

If you love your business, but certain parts of it are sucking the life out of you, I want to encourage you to give yourself permission to make changes.

If hustling after something you don’t want (but you think you should) is making you sick, let’s talk.

Or if your love for what you do is causing you to push harder than you can sustain over time but you aren’t sure how to make adjustments, I can help.

Your business and your life should be a reflection of you–ALL OF YOU. Not just of your skills, but also your passion, values, goals, joy and your well-being.

If you find yourself yearning for more alignment between you and your business, here are options designed to help you take another step in that direction:

Here’s to stepping into more wholeness, in our lives and our work. Let me know how I can help.

Love,

Booth
