The world I want to see.
Of course we forget … OF COURSE WE FORGET.
Who we are. Who we came here to be. The agency we DO have. The power and truth that reside within us. How to use our voice.
In a world that makes us feel powerless …
In circumstances that are so often beyond our control …
Where we live each day with the very real experience of holding our unresolved traumas, grief and pain in our bodies …
In the cells, muscular structures and nervous system pathways that guide our beliefs, behaviors, and ultimately, our mental and physical health …
Where we have been taught to trust everyone but ourselves …
But also to distrust anyone who doesn’t look, behave or worship like us …
We have been taught to ignore and deny our own knowing and to deprive and punish our own bodies … and to diminish and devalue the bodies of other people.
We are fed fear, pain, loathing and anger at every turn — both directly and indirectly …
We deny the humanity of others, because we don’t know how to hold our own. So we shove it down and label others as weak.
So many are just trying to get through the day. The best way we know how.
We are operating in a perpetual state of fight, flight or freeze …
With only the bare minimum to fuel us … running on adrenaline, sugar, coffee, substances, and numbing out … in lieu of food, water, movement, connection and rest …
We forget. Again. And again. And again.
Perhaps that is why it is so sweet when we remember. If only for a few breaths.
That we carry the seed of the divine within us.
That we have access to wisdom that is not of this world.
That we don’t have to accept the way things are.
That we can use our voice and our power to make something better. And break the chains of (generational) trauma that bind us.
To imagine and breathe life into new worlds. To write a new story.
I want to live in a world where we remember that we–and the natural world that surrounds and supports us–are interconnected, interdependent, precious, worthy and valuable.
Where we have the capacity to hold space for each other’s experience, well- being and thriving.
And where we actually get to have the full sensory and emotional experience of being in a body for this once in a lifetime journey.
I want to live in a world that doesn’t demand that we abandon our true nature. Or numb and dissociate in order to survive it. That isn’t making us physically and mentally ill. And fomenting hatred, violence and trauma all around us.
This is the world I am seeding with my work. Even as I realize I may not live long enough to see those seeds fully bloom.
Tell me about the moments when you remembered who you really are.
The ones in which you claimed your own voice and power. Even if your voice was trembling.
Tell me how it felt in your body to act in accordance with your truth.
To remember yourself. If only for a moment.
Tell me what those moments meant to you. And how they changed you.
Tell me about the world you want to create (for yourself, for your loved ones, for your community).
Tell me about the seeds of new life and growth you are planting.
There are no right answers here and no scorecards. Bigger isn’t always better. I would love to know.
