I had a 1:1 coaching session with a 6 Steps student last week, and do you want to know the most powerful guidance that came out of that session?
Say “Thank You.” To yourself.
Sounds odd, right?!
For those of us who have come to realize that our lifetime of conditioning is no longer working for us (and may actually be making us sick), making the choice to honor what our bodies are telling us (instead of what our nervous system thinks will keep us safe) is a profoundly difficult thing to do at first.
Our bodies may have been sending us signals for a while now, and those signals have become increasingly desperate cries for us to pause, listen, respond (instead of react), and choose in that moment to do it differently (whatever “it” is).
In more than one conversation over the last few weeks, I have reminded people of a truth I have found on my own journey . . . when we begin to honor the voice that has been inside of us all along, the voice will get braver, and stronger, and will talk to us more often; giving us important information about what works for us (and what doesn’t work for us).
For many of us, honoring that voice is a skill that it takes time to develop; because we have spent a lifetime learning to ignore it.
And here is the piece I hadn’t been as aware of until that coaching session. It is a profoundly healing gift to our body and our soul to say “Thank you.”
Those thank yous will likely be very personal to you based upon your own journey. Here are a few of mine:
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for honoring me by choosing to step into alignment with my well-being.
Thank you for choosing to do the work it takes to heal.
Thank you for supporting me even when I didn’t support you.
Thank you for allowing me to grow three precious little people.
Thank you for setting and holding that boundary even when it made you feel afraid.
Thank you for holding fast to tools–sleep, gym, meditation–that help me heal, ground, and discharge extra energy.
Thank you for holding my soul on this earth so that it can do the work it came to do
Take a moment now (yes, I mean right now) to write a “Thank you” note to your body and soul.
And each time you make a choice to step toward your well-being: pause, and acknowledge and value that choice by saying “Thank you.”
You may be surprised at the changes that occur for you as you engage in this practice.
Love,
Booth
