Research estimates that adults make 35,000 decisions per day of varying importance and impact.
When the pandemic changed everything about everything, we found ourselves having to make decisions about things that had once been routine; adding to the load.
There are so many reasons why we might find ourselves stuck, overwhelmed and anxious; trying to discern the right path forward while clarity seems to be nowhere in sight.
I used to rely exclusively on my logical brain to interact with and survive in the world.
I had been taught that emotions weren’t safe.
And to ignore the needs (and cries) of my body.
I trusted my brain implicitly. This strategy had garnered me success, recognition, respect, and safety. Or so I thought.
But then, I became mentally ill. And my brain didn’t feel trustworthy anymore.
“The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master.” ~original author unknown
One of the most beautiful gifts to come out of the experience of “losing my mind” has been the opportunity to reconnect with and learn to trust my body again.
So many of us have been taught to disregard, distrust, ignore, manage, control or shrink our bodies.
It might surprising to know that your body and brain are in constant dialogue. That your brain can be deceived no matter how smart you are (or that it may have been changed by what has happened to you). That your body doesn’t lie.
Can you override or ignore the truth that lives your body? Yes. But not without cost. And that cost could be your health, your relationships, all of your markings of success, and even your life.
“Oh great, now I feel even more overwhelmed, stressed and anxious than before!” you might say.
What if there was a different way to make decisions? One that left you feeling clear, grounded and confident; in contrast to the churning thoughts in your brain?
Often whenever someone asks me what I think they should do about something, I coach them to check in with their body.
Before participants in my group coaching program finalize their goals and plans for the next four quarters, we do a bodily check in and work through what to do (or not do) based on the information they receive.
At the Whole You: Returning Home Retreat, we will explore this practice as it relates to choosing what to keep and what to let go of in your business.
Your body is the conduit for creating the life and business you want.
I want you to learn how to work with your body. How to trust it again. And how to support it so that it can support you in the very best ways.
If one of my current offerings isn’t a great fit for you right now, but you would like more resources on this particular topic, just reply to this email, and I will be happy to share more.
