What You Can Expect

Sometimes I skip steps. Or I forget what I didn’t know before I knew it.

I realize that have been talking about shifting my 1:1 work to somatic coaching, without taking the time to explain what I mean by that.

And, when words like “somatic” become more prevalent in culture, sometimes we can lose track of the meaning … often in large part because all of the people using the word aren’t sourcing its meaning from a universal definition or framework.

Maybe you are intrigued about the journey I have been on or the possibilities I have been describing, but at the end of the day, you really want to know …

What does somatic coaching (with Booth) look and feel like? What can you expect if you step into this work?

If that’s you, then the information below will hopefully provide more clarity. And if it doesn’t, I hope you will reply to this email and ask any other questions you have!

What is somatic coaching?

Somatic coaching draws on insights from diverse fields, including somatic psychology, neuroscience, embodiment practices, and ancient wisdom. By attuning to our sensory and emotional experiences, we are able to access resourcing and deep wisdom inside of our own bodies.

What are the benefits of somatic coaching?

When we work with the body, we are often able to shift the internal stories and sometimes unconscious resistance that can prevent us from stepping more fully into wholeness and taking the actions necessary to achieve our goals.

The use of somatic modalities can help you establish clear vision, engage challenges with curiosity, creativity and resilience, and take action toward your desired outcomes (without leaving any part of yourself behind in the process).

What is the flow of a 1:1 somatic coaching session?

Part 1: The session starts with a conversation. I might ask you about:

  • Did you come to the session with a specific goal in mind
  • What is coming up for you in your day to day
  • Are there places you feel stuck in relationship to where you want to be (including limiting thoughts and beliefs)
  • How do you want to experience your life and/or work moving forward, what would you like to be different, what do you want more of/less of
  • Are there any decision(s) you are facing that you are seeking clarity about
  • What are you hoping to build, create, receive or step into in the future (on any scale)
  • Any other curiosities or places of inquiry that arise based on our conversation

Once I have a better understanding of your goals and desires, if we are to working together in this way, I might ask about your experience with body-based methodologies and nervous system focused practices. No experience required! The more I know about where we are starting from, the more I can target our work together to meet you where you are.

Part 2: After checking in with you about our plan of action for the session, I will guide you into connection with your body. From there, using your body’s cues (sensations) as the roadmap, we will follow where your body wants to and is prepared to go as it relates to your stated goal(s). I am your guide through this part of the session; using prompts, invitations, and questions as needed as I attune to your experience within the session.

Part 3: At the conclusion of the session we will discuss ways that you can integrate what you learned and/or experienced through resourcing and action.

You are in control of the session at all times. My job is to facilitate and guide you through the experience, help distill any insights that arise, and support you in thinking through any action steps that will help you integrate the experience more deeply in relationship to your goals. Depending on the focus of the session, I might also support you with practical tools, strategies or resources that you can utilize after the session.

How long does a somatic coaching take?

A complete, single session lasts up to 75 minutes. Recommended frequency and duration of coaching depends on your unique goals. If you are seeking to create a significant shift in your life or business, in most cases, I recommend a minimum of six months of somatic coaching support. That said, profound clarity and impact can come from a single session.

Limitations on somatic coaching

Somatic coaching is not intended to diagnose or treat any medical or mental health condition. It is not a replacement for the support of licensed medical or mental health professionals. For more information, please refer to this Disclaimer.
